Order to clear auctionable goods lying at port within 15 days

Chattogram Customs House has taken the initiative to quickly clear auctioned and auctionable goods that have been lying for a long time in various yards, sheds and storage areas of Chattogram Port. Bidder concerned have been directed to clear goods that were not taken delivery of even after a sale order was issued through auction, within 15 working days from the date of publication of the notice.

A public notice in this regard was issued from the auction branch of Chattogram Customs House on September 16.

The notice stated that a huge quantity of uncleared, auctioned and auctionable goods consignments have been lying for a long time in various yards, sheds and storage areas of the port. In particular, as these container-loaded goods have been lying for a long time, there is a risk of disrupting the port's capacity and normal operations.

Bidders concerned of goods consignments not taken delivery of even after a sale order was issued through auction have been asked to take delivery of the goods within 15 working days from the date of publication of the notice, after paying the fixed price, source tax, source VAT and other legal and financial liabilities.

At the same time, if any importer, exporter, shipping line or agent, custodian or any other stakeholder has any valid claim, title or objection regarding these goods consignments, they have been asked to submit it in writing to the auction branch of the Customs House with necessary documents and certified evidence within seven working days from the date of publication of the notice.

The notice further stated that if the goods are not taken delivery of within the stipulated time and no valid claim, objection or legal obstacle is presented, arrangements will be made for re-auction, destruction or any other legal settlement as per existing laws and rules.

Additionally, it was stated that if the bidder fails to clear the goods within the stipulated time, the sale approval of the concerned bidder will be cancelled, the submitted deposit or pay order will be forfeited in favour of the state, and legal action including re-auction of the concerned goods will be taken.

The notice mentioned that this initiative has been taken with the aim of quickly settling auctioned and auctionable goods lying for a long time at Chattogram Port, easing cargo congestion, increasing revenue collection and making optimum use of the port's capacity.
