Over 91 lakh animals sacrificed this Eid

Over 91 lakh animals were sacrificed nationwide during this Eid-ul-Adha, representing a decrease of approximately 13 lakh compared to last year, according to data from the Department of Livestock Services.

According to Livestock Services data, a total of 9,136,734 animals were sacrificed across the country during this Eid. Among them, 4.705 million were cows and buffaloes, 4.43 million were goats and sheep, and 960 were other animals.

Last year, a total of 1,04,08,918 animals were sacrificed.

Meanwhile, government data also shows that this year saw over 33 lakh sacrificial animals unsold.

The Livestock Services attributed the decrease in sales to increased production.

Data shows that the least number of animals were sacrificed in the Sylhet Division this time, with 3,19,823 animals slaughtered. Sylhet was followed by the Mymensingh Division with 3,83,162 animals sacrificed.

The highest number of cattle sacrificed was in Rajshahi Division, with a total of 2,324,971 animals. Dhaka Division ranked second, with 2,185,40 cattle sacrificed. Chattogram Division followed with 1,753,732 cattle, while Khulna Division recorded 804,224 sacrificed cattle.
