Pakistan beat New Zealand, keep semis hopes alive

Pakistan needed something magical when they set out to chase down the record 402-run total and left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman conjured up just that to help his side secure a stunning 21-run win via DLS over New Zealand in the Bengaluru run-fest and keep their semifinal hopes alive.

Batting first, New Zealnd made 401 runs for 6 wickets. Rachin Ravindra (108 off 94) scored his third century of the ongoing World Cup and together with skipper Kane Williamson (95 off 79) shared 180 runs for the second wicket to set the platform for New Zealand's total. Glenn Phillips (41 off 25), Mark Chapman (39 off 27) and Daryl Mitchell (29 off 18) scored brisk runs towards the end to help New Zealand's cause.

Rain disturbed Pakistan's chase a couple of times. At the end of 21.3 overs, rain struck. Then Pakistan's scoreboard stood at 160 with the loss of 1 wicket. When the rain stopped, Fakhr Zaman and Babar Azam came down again to bat.

The target was 342 in 41 overs on DLS method. At the end of 25.3 overs, rain struck again. Later, Pakistan were declared the winner by DLS method by 21 runs. Fakhar was unbeaten on 126 off 81 balls and Babar on 66 off 63 balls.
