Pakistan level series with commanding win over West Indies

Pakistan bounced back in emphatic fashion to level the two-match Test series against the West Indies, securing an eight-wicket victory in the second Test in Trinidad and ending a dismal run of eight consecutive away Test defeats.

Chasing a modest target of 75 on the fourth day, Pakistan completed the task inside the opening hour of the second session. Babar Azam fittingly sealed the win in style, launching spinner Jomel Warrican for back-to-back sixes to wrap up the chase.

The victory also marked Pakistan's first Test win away from home since defeating Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 2023.

The foundation for the triumph was laid earlier when Pakistan's bowlers dismantled the West Indies for just 117 in their second innings. Resuming the day on 103 for 6, the hosts added only 14 more runs before being bowled out, setting Pakistan a straightforward target after conceding a 43-run first-innings deficit. It was the West Indies' third-lowest Test total against Pakistan.

Left-arm spinner Ali Usman starred with 4 for 39, removing Kemar Roach, Justin Greaves and Shamar Joseph, while off-spinner Sajid Khan, who claimed four wickets on day three, did not need to bowl on the final morning.

Pakistan made an uneasy start to the chase, losing Imam-ul-Haq (9) and Azan Awais (18) with the score on 42. However, Abdullah Shafique and Babar Azam calmly guided the visitors home with an unbeaten 35-run partnership, both finishing on 24 not out.

Shafique was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 160 in the first innings, an innings that proved decisive in Pakistan's series-saving victory. Babar Azam and Justin Greaves shared the Player of the Series award as the contest ended level at 1-1.
