The Government of Pakistan has decided to formally recommend US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the recent India-Pakistan crisis, reports DAWN.

In a post shared on X, the Pakistan government said that "At a moment of heightened regional turbulence", President Trump "demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi."

According to official statements, the move is being viewed as a significant marker of evolving regional diplomacy and a rare moment of bipartisan international consensus on the value of de-escalatory engagement.

In a statement shared via official government channels, Islamabad strongly condemned what it described as “India’s unexpected and illegal aggression,” calling it a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity that resulted in the loss of innocent lives, including children and the elderly.

The statement added that Pakistan’s retaliatory military operation, codenamed Bunyanum Marsus, was a “proportionate, firm, and correct response” carried out to exercise the country's fundamental right to self-defence. The operation was aimed at restoring deterrence while avoiding civilian casualties and maintaining regional stability.

Amid heightened tensions and mounting fears of a broader conflict, the government credited then-President Trump with playing a decisive diplomatic role. “In a highly volatile regional context, President Trump demonstrated exceptional statesmanship by engaging both Islamabad and New Delhi with urgency and balance,” the statement read.

It further noted that Trump’s intervention was instrumental in securing a ceasefire and de-escalating hostilities at a time when the region teetered on the brink of war. “Through his efforts, President Trump acted as a true ambassador of peace and underscored the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue rather than force,” the government added.
