Pakistani drama group stages Ramayana adaptation in Karachi
The Pakistani drama group Mauj has successfully staged an adaptation of the Ramayana, a renowned Hindu epic, at the Karachi Arts Council over the weekend. The production, enhanced with AI technology, has earned praise for its innovative approach and artistic execution.
Director Yoheshwar Karera expressed surprise at the positive reception, stating, “Bringing the Ramayana to life on stage shows that Pakistani society is more tolerant than often assumed.”
Art and film critic Omair Alavi noted his admiration for the sincerity in the storytelling. “The dynamic lighting, live music, colorful costumes, and evocative designs all contributed to the grandeur of the show,” he said.
“The narrative is top-class, as the Ramayana is a story that resonates with millions around the world.”
Producer and lead actress Rana Kazmi, who played Sita, said the project was a unique opportunity to present the ancient story as an immersive theatrical experience.
