Pakistan's airforce strikes kill 30 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
At least 30 people, including women and children, were killed in an airstrike conducted by the Pakistan Air Force in the Dara area of Tirah Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
However, the exact number of injured remains unconfirmed, reports DAWN.
UK-based human rights organisation Amnesty International reported that eight LS-6 bombs were dropped during the strike.
Rescue teams responded promptly and worked to recover victims from the rubble.
Amnesty also warned that casualties could rise.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become a stronghold of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), whose attacks have surged since the Taliban takeover of Kabul in August 2021. Between January and August this year, the province witnessed 605 terrorist attacks, resulting in at least 138 civilian and 79 police deaths.
Amnesty’s South Asia regional deputy director, Isabelle Lassi, criticised Pakistan’s performance in both counterterrorism and civilian protection.
