Long-standing board president Nazmul Hassan Papon has resigned from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The decision came from the much-anticipated meeting of BCB directors at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Wednesday. Papon, who is reportedly in London, joined the meeting virtually alongside some other directors who also left the country, while others attended the meeting in person. According to the BCB constitution, if the board president resigns, the existing directors of the cricket board will decide on their next course of action to choose the next president from the directors' panel. Since the fall of the Awami League government following a student uprising on August 5, most of the BCB directors have gone into hiding, including the BCB president, leaving many positions inactive.

দীর্ঘ বারো বছর পদে থেকে অবশেষে সব জল্পনা-কল্পনার অবসান ঘটিয়ে পদত্যাগ করলেন বিসিবি সভাপতি নাজমুল হাসান পাপন। আজ বুধবার অনলাইনে হওয়া বোর্ড মিটিংয়ে পদত্যাগের চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছেন তিনি, জানিয়েছে বিসিবির এক কর্মকর্তা। দেশের ক্রিকেটের সার্বিক পরিস্থিতি বিবেচনায় এনে হঠাৎই করেই ডাকা হয়েছে এই বোর্ড মিটিং। ২০১২ সালে সভাপতি হিসেবে মনোনয়নের পর ২০১৩ সালের নির্বাচনের মাধ্যমে সভাপতি হিসেবে চূড়ান্ত হন নাজমুল হাসান পাপন। গত ৫ আগস্ট সরকার পতনের পর যুব ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রণালয়ের দায়িত্ব হারিয়েছেন নাজমুল হাসান পাপন। তার জায়গায় অন্তর্বর্তীকালীন সরকারের ক্রীড়া উপদেষ্টা হিসেবে দায়িত্ব নিয়েছেন আসিফ মাহমুদ সজীব ভূঁইয়া। ২০০৯ সাল থেকে কিশোরগঞ্জ-৬ আসনের এমপি ছিলেন পাপন। গত জানুয়ারিতে পান যুব ও ক্রীড়া মন্ত্রণালয়ের দায়িত্ব। সমানতালে চালিয়ে যান বিসিবি সভাপতির দায়িত্বও।
