The United States is considering a major increase in military presence in the Middle East even as President Donald Trump signals willingness to pursue talks with Iran to ease tensions.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon is reviewing plans to deploy up to 10,000 additional ground troops to the region, aimed at providing the president with stronger military options.

Officials said the proposed deployment would include infantry units, advanced armoured vehicles and tanks, significantly enhancing US military capabilities.

Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that troop movements are already underway. Around 5,000 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division and an additional 2,000 paratroopers have been ordered for rapid deployment to the Middle East.

If approved, the new deployment could sharply increase the US military footprint in the region within weeks. Analysts say the move is likely intended to increase pressure on Iran while keeping diplomatic options open.

Tensions remain high in key areas such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, raising concerns that further troop deployments could escalate instability.

Experts say the inclusion of heavy armour indicates that the United States is preparing not only for air operations but also for the possibility of ground action if necessary. Approval of the plan could significantly influence the direction of the ongoing crisis.

Overall, the Trump administration appears to be pursuing a dual-track strategy—maintaining diplomatic engagement while strengthening military readiness—in what analysts see as a clear signal to Tehran.
