Malaysian energy giant Petronas has outright rejected the Bangladesh Football Federation’s (BFF) announcement naming it as the title sponsor of the Bangladesh Football League (BFL).

In a press statement, Petronas said it has no sponsorship agreement with the league and has not authorised the use of its brand in any form.

The clarification came a day after BFF unveiled the 2025–26 BFL logo, which featured the Petronas emblem.

BFF Vice-President Fahad Karim had said a deal was signed with United Group two months ago, but the announcement was delayed due to product selection issues.

Petronas, however, stated that the sponsorship claims circulating on social media are misleading and reaffirmed that the company has no involvement with the league.

Meanwhile, after a month-long break, the Bangladesh Football League resumes today with four matches. The highlight fixture will be the clash between Mohammedan SC and Abahani Limited at Cumilla’s Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium at 2:45pm.

Both clubs are still winless after two rounds, with one draw and one loss each. Since the professional league began in 2007, the sides have met 34 times—Abahani winning 14, Mohammedan 7, and 13 ending in draws.
