Photocopies of 272 ballot papers distributed in Joypurhat, 3 held
The joint forces have picked up three people, including the owner of a photocopy shop, on charges of photocopying ballot papers and distributing those among the workers of candidates in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat-2 constituency.
They were held during a raid in Matrai Bazar of the upazila on Wednesday (February 11) evening.
They are--Nirmal Chandra Sarkar, 51, the owner of a photocopy shop in Matrai Bazar, and his two employees Zahurul Islam, 26, and Mostafizur Rahman, 30. The matter was confirmed by Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam.
Based on secret information, it was learned that a shop was collecting original ballot papers, photocopying them and later distributing them among the leaders and workers of Jamaat and BNP. Based on this information, members of the army first raided the shop. Later, the police went and searched and seized several photocopied ballot papers.
During interrogation by law enforcement, shop owner Nirmal Chandra Sarkar said that he had photocopied a total of 272 ballot papers. He and his two employees were then detained and taken to the police station.
Kalai Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said that the accused have been detained to prevent the law and order situation from deteriorating. The process of taking legal action in this incident is underway.
