PM expresses grief over artist Mustafa Monowar's death
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Ekushey Padak-winning artist and cultural personality Mustafa Monowar.
In a condolence message on Monday, June 29, the prime minister said Monowar's death has created a great void in the country's art and cultural circles that will not be easily filled.
"The nation will always remember his contributions with deep respect. His work and ideals will inspire future generations," the prime minister said.
Tarique Rahman prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
Mustafa Monowar, 90, passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital.
He was one of the country's most respected cultural figures, known for his contributions to painting, puppetry, children's programmes and cultural activities. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2004.
Mustafa Monowar was born on September 1, 1935, in Nakol village, Magura district. His ancestral home was in Monoharpur village, Shailkupa upazila, Jhenaidah. He was the son of renowned poet Golam Mostafa.
