PM hands over financial assistance to footballer Rituparna Chakma

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has provided financial assistance to Bangladesh national women's football team star player Rituparna Chakma for constructing a house. The prime minister handed over the cheque to Rituparna at his office in the National Parliament building on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, during a break in the budget session.

Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Mir Helal Uddin, Textiles and Jute State Minister Shariful Alam, and Bangladesh Football Federation President Tabith Awal were present on the occasion.

The BNP had previously stood by Rituparna Chakma and her family. In 2025, when her cancer-stricken mother needed treatment assistance, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and 'Amra BNP Paribar' convener Atiqur Rahman Rumon visited Rituparna's home in a remote hilly area of Rangamati and provided necessary financial support on the directive of then acting BNP chairman and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Rituparna Chakma, one of the brightest stars of Bangladesh football, continues to play a crucial role behind the success of women's football in the country. She was a key player in the SAFF Women's Championship victories in 2022 and 2024. She also made significant contributions to Bangladesh's historic qualification for the AFC Women's Asian Cup final round for the first time in 2025.

Coming from a humble family in a hilly region, Rituparna Chakma has become an inspiration for countless female footballers in the country.
