Poet, fiction writer Mujtoba Ahmed Murshed's birthday today
Poet, fiction writer and political analyst Mujtoba Ahmed Murshed's birthday is being celebrated today. He was born in Baluadanga Mohalla of Dinajpur city on this day in 1961.
After completing his higher education in international relations from Dhaka University, he worked as a political analyst at the Japanese and German embassies in Dhaka for twenty-five years. After that, he chose journalism as his profession. Along with his professional work, his strong attraction to art and literature led him to immerse himself in the world of writing stories, poems, plays, rhymes and songs. For more than four decades, he has developed a unique literary space through poetry, stories, plays and cultural practices.
His writings include numerous stories and poems, a significant number of articles and children's literature. In addition, he continues to write in the country's national dailies on contemporary political and diplomatic issues. So far, he has published six books of poetry, two rhyme books for children, three story books, a juvenile novel on the Liberation War and five collections of short stories.
His research book, Rabindranath: Jibon ke jemon dekhechhen has gained much admiration. For literary works, he received Lalon Shah Memorial Gold Award in 2004.
Born in Dinajpur, this writer not only manipulates words, but also transforms the complex structure of society, politics, religion, economy and humanity into the symbolic structure of literature with outstanding skill.
His stories contain reality, intense reflections of imagination, and an underlying analysis of social and spiritual crises. Above all, his stories closely reveal the multidimensional identity of the Bengali nation's innate literary outlook, aesthetic approach and deep sense of human responsibility.
His literary works are not just stories, but rather complex symbolic constructions developed in geographical and cultural contexts; where religion, sexuality, class division and politics nourish and distort each other. The language of his stories is very lively and perceptible. The author effortlessly portrays the daily rural life in such a way that the reader not only sees, but also smells, touches, and even feels the breath of the characters in the story.
A writer becomes memorable only when he is able to transcend his own time and enter the hearts of the reader; Mujtaba Ahmed Murshed is one such writer who has captured, reflected, and transcended his time in the intense light of art.
He is involved in many other creative activities, not only in literary works. In addition to writing, he has hosted current affairs talk shows on Channel One and GTV. At the same time, he has planned and presented the weekly discussion program Ichcheghuri on art and literature on Ekushey Television in 2012. He has written several plays and more than a hundred songs.
His father, Advocate Md. Azizur Rahman, MNA, was one of the architects of the success of the independence struggle of Bangladesh. During the Liberation War, he was the convener of the Greater Dinajpur District All-Party Sangram Parishad and the Civil Affairs Adviser of Sector No. 7 of the Liberation War with the rank of Lieutenant General. His mother Mosammat Samida was a political and social activist.
As a cultural activist, Murshed established the Swabhumi Writers and Artists Center in 2005 to preserve the culture of the land and people and is currently the president of Swabhumi.
Due to his strong passion for traveling, he has traveled to Switzerland, Germany, America, France, England, Italy, India and Nepal.
