Police arrest 129 in special drives across capital

Police have arrested 129 people in special drives across the capital in a single day, according to a press release by Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Saturday, May 16.

During special operations in the Mirpur Model Police Station area, 31 individuals involved in various crimes were arrested, while 49 were arrested in the Tejgaon division area. Additionally, Gulshan police arrested 30 people, and Jatrabari police arrested 19, including women.

Breakdown of arrests by police station area: Tejgaon 5, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar 6, Mohammadpur 16, Adabor 7, Tejgaon Industrial Area 8, and Hatirjheel 7.

Among those arrested in Jatrabari, three were accused in regular cases, one was named in an old case, and four had arrest warrants issued by courts. The remaining 11 were sentenced and arrested through mobile courts for various offences.

All arrestees have been sent to court, police said. The special drives were conducted to control crime and maintain law and order in their respective areas. The arrestees face charges including regular cases, warrants and mobile court sentences.

Police said such operations will continue to curb crime and maintain law and order in the capital.
