Police attacked, vehicle vandalised in Cumilla over three-wheeler seizure
Highway police were attacked and their patrol vehicle vandalised in Burichang upazila, Cumilla, following the seizure of illegal three-wheelers, disrupting traffic on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway for some time.
The incident occurred around 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 9, in the Nimshar vegetable market area of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, a patrol team from Mynamati Highway Police Station seized several illegal three-wheelers to maintain order on the highway. Enraged by this, an organised group of three-wheeler drivers attacked the police. The attackers hurled bricks and stones at the police vehicle, causing significant damage.
Mynamati Highway Crossing Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Momin said 30-35 organised individuals launched a sudden attack on police following the seizure. The attackers created a tense situation in the area by pelting bricks and vandalising the vehicle with blows. Additional police arrived and brought the situation under control. Traffic on the highway later returned to normal.
The OC said efforts are underway to identify those involved in the attack and take legal action against them.
