A young man named Limon, 28, allegedly attacked a police constable with a sharp weapon and fled during a routine motorcycle check in Haluaghat.

The incident took place around 3:30am at Paglapara Bazar in the municipal area on early Thursday morning (January 22).

The injured officer has been identified as Constable Ijaul Haque Bhuiyan (Ejaz).

Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Md Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed that the accused, Lion, is the son of Md Ruhul Amin, convener of Haluaghat Upazila’s Swechasebak Dal. Ruhul Amin has been called to the police station for questioning.

Police said the Romeo-11 patrol team was conducting routine motorcycle checks when they stopped Lion for inspection. He allegedly attacked Constable Ejaz from behind with a local weapon, leaving him seriously injured.

Constable Ejaz was first taken to Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex for initial treatment. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Mymensingh-1 (Haluaghat-Dhobaura) nominee Syed Emran Saleh Prince said drug abuse and unemployment have contributed to moral decay among local youth. He added that while a father should not be held responsible for a son’s wrongdoing, the offender—regardless of political affiliation—must face the full force of the law.

Police confirmed that legal proceedings are underway and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the accused.
