Police have submitted a charge sheet against Sohail Rana and his wife Swapna Akter in the case filed over the rape and murder of eight-year-old Ramisa in Pallabi, Mirpur. Sohail has been charged with rape and murder, while his wife has been charged with abetting the murder.

The investigation officer, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ahiduzzaman, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Dhaka on Sunday, May 24.

According to the case statement, Ramisa, a second-grade student, left her home around 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 19. Swapna lured her into their room. Around 10:30 am, Ramisa's mother began searching for her after she did not go to school. She saw the child's shoes near the accused's room. Receiving no response after calling out, Ramisa's parents and neighbours broke down the door and found her headless body on the bedroom floor, with her head in a large bucket inside the room.

Police detained Swapna at the scene after receiving a call to 999. With the help of information technology, police arrested Sohail Rana from in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj.

The victim's father, Abdul Hannan Molla, filed the case at Pallabi Police Station on Wednesday. Sohail gave a confessional statement before the court on the day of his arrest, admitting to the crime. He told the court that he had consumed yaba before the incident.

In his statement, Sohail said that after Ramisa came out of her home, his wife brought her into their room. He then took her to the bathroom and raped her, causing her to lose consciousness. As the victim's mother knocked on the door, Sohail killed the child by slitting her throat. To dispose of the body, he severed her head with a sharp knife and partially detached both arms from the shoulders. He then brought the body from the bathroom to the bedroom and hid it under the bed. He also mutilated her private parts with the knife. His wife was present in the room during the incident. He later fled after cutting the window grill. He told the court there was no prior enmity with the victim's family.
