Police SI found hanging in hotel room, wife found bleeding

The hanging body of a police member, Aminul Islam, 32, was recovered from a room of a residential hotel in Mirsarai, Chattogram. His wife Tahmina Akhter, 24, was found lying injured and bleeding beside the door of the same room. Their 10-month-old daughter, Fatiha Akhter, was rescued in good health.

Police recovered Aminul Islam's body from Room No 104 of Hotel Relax Zone in the Barotakia Bazaar area of the upazila around 11am on Monday, August 10.

The deceased was the son of Abul Hossain of Abdul Haq Master's house in Kheyachhara Union, Mirsarai upazila. He was serving as a Sub-Inspector (SI) in the police line in Rangamati Hill District. His wife was a resident of Hajishwarai area in the upazila.

It was learned that upon receiving the news, Mirsarai police went to the scene, rescued Tahmina Akhter in a bleeding condition and sent her to Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex. At the same time, they recovered Aminul Islam's hanging body from the room. Their 10-month-old daughter, Fatiha Akhter, was rescued unharmed.

Hotel Manager Sohan said, "Aminul Islam, his wife and their 10-month-old daughter checked into Room No 104 around 2pm on Sunday. They went out twice during the afternoon and night, returning to the room later at night. I did not hear any sounds afterwards. On Monday morning, when we called out to them and received no response, I informed others."

"Later, after a long time, the wife opened the door in a bleeding condition. Upon entering the room, we saw Aminul Islam hanging from the fan beside the bed," he added.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Mirsarai Circle Nadim Haider Chowdhury said, "Police went to the scene after receiving the news in the morning. The police member's wife was found injured and bleeding there. She has been sent to hospital. The husband was found hanging in the same room. They had checked into Room No 104 on Sunday afternoon. A death report is being prepared, and the body is being sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Further details will be provided later."

He further said, "The cause of Aminul Islam's death and how his wife sustained injuries could not be confirmed immediately. Whether the incident is a suicide or if there is any other reason behind it will be determined after investigation."
