Political leaders' reactions over July Declaration
'July Declaration' is now at the center of discussions in the political arena across the country, including the capital. Various opinions and reactions have emerged from various political parties and leaders regarding this declaration, announced a year after the 2024 mass uprising. Some see it as the beginning of new possibilities, while others question its necessity.
Political analysts say that this declaration has opened a new debate in the country's politics.
BNP Chairperson's Adviser Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon told View Bangladesh: "July Declaration reflects the consensus of the post-24 uprising commission. It will be featured in the schedule of the reformed constitution."
According to him, this charter is not just a political declaration, but a new direction for running the state.
Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha sees it as a positive step. He said: “We are looking at the July Declaration positively, along with the government announcing the elections. Now the expectation is that the law and order situation will be normal, the country will be election-oriented and there will be a fair election in the country.”
On the other hand, Ruhin Hossain Prince, coordinator of the Left Democratic Alliance, has a different opinion. Terming the declaration as completely unnecessary, he said: “The July Declaration that has been issued is completely unnecessary in my opinion. I don’t know who was consulted about it, we were not consulted about it. The July Declaration should have prioritized the Great Liberation War and incorporated all the achievements of the country’s history. That didn’t happen. It is not clear what is being said in this declaration. Therefore, we have no acceptance for it.”
Meanwhile, Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki has called on the people to unite over the issue. He said: “This declaration is the achievement of the historic mass uprising of July 24, therefore we fully embrace its aspirations. We believe that this achievement has been possible through the continuity of the people of this country's century-long struggle, including the Liberation War. But if this aspiration is not implemented, the old arrangements will return again, disenfranchising the people.”
“We will call on the people of Bangladesh to unite and be vigilant watchmen in the trial of the July massacre, establishing the dignity of the martyrs, and building a democratic system without discrimination. Whatever will be achieved will be achieved through justice, reform, and elections. Organized people are the makers of history, if they are awake, fascism will not be able to return," he added.
