The organisers have dropped film actress Pori Moni from an award programme in Chattogram amid protests by journalists. They announced this decision on Saturday afternoon (November 7).

The organisers said they had signed a contract with Pori Moni 17 days before the recent incident with a journalist at the Dhaka court premises. However, the organising committee decided to drop Pori Moni from the programme expressing support for the demands of Chattogram journalists in the face of allegations of disrespecting a media worker and protests by the journalists.

Earlier on Friday night Pori Moni shared a poster of ‘Chattogram Fashion Vanguard Award 2026’ on her Facebook wall and wrote, “Meeting my dear Chattogram.”

A reporter of a national newspaper drew the attention of the organisers regarding the poster and wrote on Facebook, “Drawing the attention of the organisers of this programme. Find an alternative guest if the matter is not settled by publicly apologising to our colleague Rabi of daily Samakal and apologising to his mother.”

After that the matter created anger among the media workers working in Chattogram. The organisers decided to drop Pori Moni from the programme amid their protests.

The organisers have also published a new poster of the programme dropping Pori Moni. ‘Chattogram Fashion Vanguard Award 2026’ is scheduled to be held at a community centre under Khulshi police station of Chattogram on November 28.

Earlier on Thursday morning (November 5) an altercation took place between Pori Moni and a journalist at the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka. At that time allegations of abusing and threatening the journalist were raised against the actress and her bodyguards.

Pori Moni and her bodyguards claimed that the journalist had touched Pori Moni’s body. However, the journalist alleged that Pori Moni snatched his phone after seeing him taking video while getting into the lift. His tripod was also broken at that time. The journalist later told the media that he recovered his phone from Pori Moni.

A justice seeker named Sujan Chandra Moni Das who was present at the court premises was also injured in this incident, the report mentioned. The allegation is that his head was split during the jostling with Pori Moni’s bodyguards centring the taking of photos and videos by journalists.
