Pranay Verma appointed India’s ambassador to Belgium, EU

India has appointed senior diplomat Pranay Kumar Verma as its next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, with concurrent accreditation to the European Union (EU), the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday (April 10).

He is expected to assume charge shortly.

Verma most recently served as India’s Ambassador to Bangladesh. Prior to that, he was posted as Ambassador to Vietnam.

A 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Verma has held key diplomatic assignments in Hong Kong, San Francisco, Beijing, Kathmandu, and Washington.

Within the MEA, he served as Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division from June 2017. He has also worked as Joint Secretary for External Relations in the Department of Atomic Energy, where he handled aspects of India’s nuclear diplomacy.
