Preity Zinta ends eight-year hiatus with Bollywood comeback

Actress Preity Zinta is set to make her long-awaited return to Bollywood after an eight-year break, marking her comeback with Batwara 1947, a period drama produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

Speaking to the media in Mumbai, Preity reflected on her return to acting, revealing that she had spent the past several years focused on family life in Los Angeles with her husband Gene Goodenough and their twin children, Gia and Jai.

The actress said she had turned down several film offers during her hiatus but found it impossible to refuse Batwara 1947 after hearing its story. She credited both Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi for playing key roles in bringing her back to the big screen.

Preity also recalled that her very first day on set involved filming one of the movie's most emotionally demanding scenes, making her understandably nervous after such a long absence from acting. She said co-star Sunny Deol helped ease her anxiety with his calm demeanour and unwavering support throughout the shoot.

Despite spending nearly a decade away from the camera, Preity said she has no regrets about stepping back from films, describing motherhood and building a family as the most fulfilling chapter of her life.

Scheduled for theatrical release on August 14, Batwara 1947 features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Shabana Azmi, Abhimanyu Singh, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Vijayant Kohli. The film's music has been composed by A.R. Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
