Preparations underway to transfer Khaleda Zia abroad, air ambulance ready
Preparations are ongoing to transfer BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia to Singapore or Europe, though her current health condition does not yet allow travel, party leaders said on Saturday (November 29).
An air ambulance is on standby to take her abroad, confirmed Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, and BNP Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan.
The nearly 80-year-old leader is suffering from lung infection, heart complications, and other health issues. She was re-admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 due to deterioration, where a team of domestic and foreign specialists is providing intensive care under a medical board.
Speaking at the hospital, Manna said doctors had no encouraging updates and her condition remains critical, with no significant improvement or decline.
Ahmed Azam Khan added that international hospitals are being contacted, but any decision to move her abroad depends entirely on her health progress.
Earlier, former DUCSU AGS and BNP leader Nazimuddin Alam visited Khaleda Zia, seeking prayers from well-wishers. BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon reiterated that the medical board will decide on any foreign transfer.
Representatives of the National Citizen Party (NCP) reported that Khaleda Zia remains alert and responsive to doctors’ instructions despite her deteriorating condition.
On Friday night, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Special Assistant Monir Haider visited the hospital to review her health.
President Mohammad Sahabuddin has also expressed deep concern and requested prayers for her recovery, while Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is monitoring her condition and ensuring necessary support.
