Priyanka files case over Rahul's death as Tollywood stars join
Actor Priyanka Sarkar, wife of late Tollywood actor Rahul Arunodoy Banerjee, went to the police station to initiate legal proceedings over his death. The Artists Forum, an organisation of Tollywood artists, filed a case at Kolkata's Regent Park police station on Saturday afternoon, April 4, with Priyanka present.
Actors including Prosenjit Chatterjee, Chiranjit Chakraborty, Shantilal Mukhopadhyay, Jisshu Sengupta, Bharat Kaul, Ritwick Chakraborty, Saurav Das, and actresses Rituparna Sengupta, Labani Sarkar and Bidipta Chakraborty were present at the time.
The Artists Forum had earlier announced that legal action would be taken against the production company over the incident. Accordingly, a complaint was filed against the production house 'Magic Moments'.
Priyanka appeared devastated as she entered the police station with lawyers. She signed the complaint inside.
Rahul died after drowning in the sea during the shooting of the serial 'Bhole Baba Par Karega' at Talsari beach in Digha on March 29.
Police preliminary information said he died from drowning. However, questions have been raised over whether the necessary permissions were obtained for the shoot. Allegations have emerged that the shoot was taking place without proper authorisation.
The incident has sparked anger among the artist community, with many demanding accountability and pointing out safety lapses.
A procession from Technician Studio to Radha Studio has been organised on Saturday in Rahul's memory. Civil society has called for a 'Justice for Rahul' march from Technician Studio on Saturday afternoon, which will be joined by members of the Artists Forum and Federation.
