Protesters blockade Shahbagh demanding dismissal of IGP Baharul Alam

Members of Shaheed Pintu Smriti Sangsad blocked the Shahbagh intersection on Tuesday afternoon demanding removal and punishment of Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam. The blockade began at around 3pm, mobilising more than a thousand people from Wari, Gandaria, Old Dhaka and adjoining areas, bringing traffic to a complete halt in Shahbagh.

Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman confirmed that the blockade is being observed demanding justice over Pintu’s killing, and traffic movement remains suspended. Police are trying to restore order, he said.

Speaking during the demonstration, the group's president Farhad Ahmed Dollar demanded removal and arrest of then SB chief and now IGP Baharul Alam within 48 hours. He also threatened to besiege the state guest-house Jamuna if the demand goes unmet.

Following the inclusion of the IGP's name in the independent investigation report into the BDR massacre case, Shaheed Pintu Smriti Sangsad has been observing continued programmes demanding his removal and trial. They earlier submitted a memorandum to the home ministry as well.
