PSG’s Champions League celebration marred by violence, 45 arrested in Paris
Celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League triumph turned chaotic in parts of the French capital, with police arresting at least 45 people after incidents of violence and vandalism erupted across the city.
Thousands of supporters flooded the streets of Paris on Saturday night (May 30) after PSG secured a historic Champions League title, sparking jubilant scenes around iconic locations including the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées.
However, authorities said the festivities were overshadowed by isolated acts of disorder involving groups of unruly individuals.
According to French media reports, several incidents of vandalism, arson and public disturbances were recorded as celebrations intensified. Paris police said officers intervened after a group attempted to attack a police station, prompting a swift security response.
Authorities confirmed that one police officer was injured during the unrest. A bakery and a restaurant also sustained damage amid the disturbances, while attempts to block major roads and sections of the city’s ring road were successfully prevented.
By 10:00 (local time), police had detained 45 individuals in connection with the incidents. Security forces remained heavily deployed across key areas of the capital to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
While PSG’s European success sparked scenes of joy and celebration throughout Paris, the outbreaks of violence cast a shadow over what was otherwise a landmark night for the French champions.
Officials said the situation was largely under control, though heightened security measures remain in place.
