Celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League triumph turned chaotic in parts of the French capital, with police arresting more than 400 people and leaving several police officers injured after incidents of violence and vandalism erupted across the city.

According to France’s Interior Ministry, 416 people had been arrested by early Sunday (May 31), including 280 in Paris, after clashes and unrest broke out during post-match celebrations.

Thousands of PSG supporters took to the streets after the club secured the European title by defeating Arsenal in the Champions League final. Despite a heavy police presence across key areas of the capital, authorities reported multiple incidents of disorder and confrontations between supporters and law enforcement.

Local media footage showed fireworks and flares being launched in crowded areas, while motorcycles and electric scooters were set on fire. Several shops and public facilities were also vandalised during the celebrations.

Police said at least seven officers were injured in the violence. In some areas, security forces deployed tear gas to disperse crowds and regain control of the situation.

Authorities reported damage to six vehicles, two businesses and a bus stop as a result of the unrest.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez condemned the incidents, describing the violence as “completely unacceptable” and warning that those responsible would be held accountable.

The unrest has revived concerns over public safety during major sporting celebrations. Similar violence followed PSG’s European title celebrations in 2025, when two people, including a 17-year-old teenager, were killed in separate incidents linked to post-match disorder.

Despite the disturbances, PSG’s victory celebrations are expected to continue on Sunday, with players set to take part in a championship parade in Paris before meeting French President Emmanuel Macron.
