Tensions in the Middle East have escalated sharply after Israel’s recent missile strike on Iran, triggering widespread global reactions. Russian President Vladimir Putin strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a blatant breach of the UN Charter and international law. He also proposed to mediate between Israel and Iran to help de-escalate the situation.

According to the Kremlin, Putin recently spoke over the phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Putin said unprovoked attacks on sleeping cities, civilians, and nuclear facilities are unacceptable.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry stated that the international community cannot remain silent in the face of such aggression. It said the attack is not just a threat to regional peace but also to global security.

Russia also noted that Israel's actions came in the middle of an IAEA board session and just before indirect talks between the U.S. and Iran were set to begin, making the situation even more complicated.

During the phone call, Putin told Netanyahu that he is ready to help reduce tensions through mediation. The Kremlin emphasized that Russia is committed to finding a peaceful solution.

In response to the rising tensions, Russia has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to the Middle East. Russian airlines have already announced they will avoid flying over the airspace of Israel, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan, and flights to these regions will be suspended until June 26.
