Putin’s China visit finalised during Trump’s trip
The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Beijing during US President Donald Trump’s ongoing trip to China.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that Putin will travel to China soon and preparations for the visit have already been completed.
According to Reuters, Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have met more than 40 times over the past few years. Their most recent meeting took place in Beijing last September.
In February 2022, the two leaders signed what they described as a “no limits strategic partnership” agreement between China and Russia. Less than three weeks later, Moscow launched its military operation in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, during his current visit, Trump has held talks with Xi on a range of issues, including trade, Taiwan and Iran, according to statements from the foreign ministries of both countries.
However, it is still unclear whether the two leaders discussed Ukraine during the meeting.
