Rain forces overs curtailment in Bangladesh–New Zealand T20

Persistent rain further disrupted the second T20 International between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Chattogram on Wednesday (April 29), prompting match officials to begin cut overs amid growing uncertainty over play.

The match, scheduled to start at 2:00pm at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, has yet to get underway due to continuous showers since morning. The ground remains fully covered as intermittent rain continues under overcast skies.

With significant delay already incurred, officials have initiated a phased reduction of overs.

According to the latest update, if play can begin by 4:50pm, a shortened five-over contest may be possible, starting at 5:16pm.

However, dark clouds continue to loom, and rain shows little sign of relenting, virtually ruling out the chances of a full match. Spectators at the venue continue to wait in hope despite the weather disruptions.

Players from both teams remain confined to their dressing rooms, awaiting improved conditions.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department had earlier forecast a 70–90 per cent chance of rain with thunderstorms in Chattogram, a prediction that has materialised throughout the day.

Match officials said they would wait until 5:00pm before making a final call, but the possibility of abandonment remains high if conditions fail to improve.

Bangladesh, having won the first T20, was aiming to seal the series, while New Zealand needed a win to stay alive. The outcome now hinges entirely on the weather.
