The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast intermittent rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms across much of Bangladesh over the next five days starting Wednesday, signaling the approach of the monsoon season.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, accompanied by a gradual drop in daytime and nighttime temperatures.

Today, scattered rain and thunderstorms will affect parts of the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Light to moderate showers are likely in isolated areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions. Chattogram may see pockets of heavy rain.

Daytime temperatures are expected to fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures will remain stable.

A mild to moderate heatwave persists in Nilphamari, Brahmanbaria, Feni, and parts of the northern and central regions, but it is expected to ease in the coming days.

The Met Office said rainfall is likely to intensify through June 15, with most divisions experiencing thunderstorms, lightning, and occasional heavy downpours.

Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque said, “The ongoing heatwave will continue until Thursday, then begin to subside. At present, the heat is more severe in western parts of the country, including Dhaka.”

He added, “From June 13, we expect rainfall coverage to expand. Monsoon rains are likely to start within a day or two and become more widespread after June 15.”
