Rain, thunderstorms likely in Dhaka today
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Dhaka and surrounding areas on Sunday (June 14), offering potential relief from the city's persistent humid and uncomfortable weather conditions.
According to a six-hour weather outlook issued by the Met Office, the sky may remain partly cloudy to temporarily overcast during the day, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely at different places across the capital.
The forecast also indicates light to moderate south or southeasterly winds, blowing at speeds of 10–15 kilometres per hour.
Despite the possibility of rainfall, meteorologists said there is little chance of any significant change in daytime temperatures. Dhaka recorded a temperature of 28.1 degrees Celsius in the morning, while relative humidity stood at 88 percent, contributing to the prevailing muggy conditions.
Weather data showed that the capital received 35 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Officials said intermittent rain may cause temporary disruptions to daily commuting in parts of the city. Residents have been advised to carry umbrellas or raincoats when heading outdoors and to avoid open areas during thunderstorms due to the risk of lightning.
