Ramisa murder case: Important observations in forensic report

A forensic report  has been prepared in the rape and murder of seven-year-old Ramisa Akter in Pallabi of Mirpur.

According to the report, Ramisa was raped before died. Ramisa was strangled to death after being raped. Additionally, DNA profiling has confirmed that Sohel Rana raped her.

On Saturday (May 23), the report was handed over to the investigating officer of the case from the forensic unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police following completion of the child's autopsy report and test of DNA samples of both the child and the accused.

In addition, the autopsy report from the capital's Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital has also been given to the investigating officer and a draft of the charge sheet has been prepared. Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akhter are being accused in it.

The charge sheet is likely to be submitted to the court on Sunday (May 24), according to sources concerned.

Meanwhile, the main accused in the case, Sohel Rana, confessed to the crime in court on Wednesday. In his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, he claimed that he had consumed Yaba before the incident. In his statement, he also described the rape and murder of Ramisa.

Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman said that the trial of Ramisa Akhter's rape and murder case will begin after Eid. He gave this information in response to questions from journalists after an event on Saturday.

The investigation officer of the Ramisa murder case and Sub-Inspector (SI) of Pallabi Police Station, Ahiduzzaman, told the media that the forensic report showed that she was forcibly raped before death. Ramisa was strangled to death after being raped.

He said that all the work required to submit the charge sheet in the case has been almost completed.

Efforts are being made to submit the charge sheet to the court by the government-announced Sunday, he added.
