Rare handwritten letters by Rabindranath Tagore to be auctioned next week

Bengali poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore's 35 handwritten letters of Rabindranath Tagore along with 14 envelopes will go under the hammer next week for an estimated price of Rs 5-7 crore the biggest auction of the works of the Bengali polymath in terms of price and scale.

A heart-shaped sculpture, the only known sculptural piece attributed to Tagore, will also be sold for an estimated price of Rs 55-70 lakh.

AstaGuru Auction House will conduct the online auction. The letters detail Tagore's correspondence with Dhurjati Prasad Mukherji. The letters were written between 1927 and 1936. The heart-shaped sculpture is the only known sculptural piece attributed to Tagore. The auction is expected to attract art and literature enthusiasts.

Experts say that such original manuscripts and letters from Tagore are extremely valuable due to their historical and cultural significance. The auction house organizing the sale has not yet disclosed the estimated price range but confirmed that the letters will be available for public viewing before the auction.

This event marks an important moment for admirers of Tagore’s work, providing a tangible connection to one of India’s greatest literary figures.
