Rashmika Mandanna spends 20 hours underwater for 'Maisa' action sequence
South Indian actress Rashmika Mandanna has performed a lengthy and complex underwater action sequence for the upcoming pan-Indian film 'Maisa' without using a body double. The shoot required her to spend nearly 20 hours underwater over two days.
The makers claim this is India's first large-scale female-led underwater action sequence, potentially setting a new benchmark in Indian cinema.
Rashmika, known for romantic and family roles, will be seen as a warrior in this film, which she describes as one of the most challenging roles of her career.
The underwater scene is a crucial part of the story and involved modern technology, specialised stunt choreography and months of preparation. Rashmika underwent special training and did not use a body double for the entire sequence.
The actress shared her experience on social media, calling it the toughest work of her life. "We may be a little crazy, but this madness has thrilled me immensely," she wrote. "I hope the audience sees the result of that effort on screen."
The production team said the sequence would set a new standard for action cinema in India.
