The Portugal national football team has departed for the United States to participate in the 2026 World Cup. Before leaving from Lisbon's Cidade do Futebol (Football City), captain Cristiano Ronaldo faced the media. The 41-year-old superstar, likely playing his final World Cup, spoke of his excitement and deep-seated confidence.

"We are leaving with great joy. We all know the World Cup is always a special tournament, just like the Euros. We are going there with hearts full of hope," Ronaldo said.

Asked about his physical condition for a long and demanding tournament, he replied with characteristic humour, "I am perfectly fine. Haven't you been watching my recent matches?"

When asked if Portugal are among the favourites to win, the former Real Madrid legend tried to take the pressure off his team. "Will we win the trophy? We will only know that at the end of the tournament. Our current generation is incredible, but there are things in football that are not within our control. Everything depends on what happens in the matches—whether we win or lose. But I believe this generation will bring many more moments of joy to the Portuguese people," he added.
