Real Madrid confirms David Alaba departure at season end

Austrian defender David Alaba is set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the current season. The Spanish giants confirmed the departure in a statement on Friday, saying Alaba's contract will not be renewed after its expiration.

The 33-year-old joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2021. However, he was unable to play regularly due to long periods on the sidelines with injuries. Despite this, the experienced centre-back enjoyed a successful spell with the club.

In five seasons, Alaba made 131 appearances for Real Madrid, winning 11 trophies including two UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga titles.

"Real Madrid expresses its sincere gratitude and affection to a player who has been part of one of the most successful periods in our history," the club said in a statement.

Alaba will bid an official farewell to fans during the final league match of the season against Athletic Bilbao on Saturday. Coach Alvaro Arbeloa and right-back Dani Carvajal will also bid farewell to fans on the same day.
