Recovery efforts begin in Gaza: 135 bodies pulled out from rubble
Following the enforcement of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israeli forces in the besieged Gaza Strip, recovery efforts have begun, revealing the devastating toll of recent Israeli airstrikes.
According to Palestinian news agency Wafa, at least 155 bodies were brought to hospitals across Gaza on Friday (October 10), 135 of which were retrieved from beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings.
The ceasefire and withdrawal of Israeli troops from densely populated areas allowed rescue teams to access previously unreachable zones.
The recovered bodies were distributed across several medical facilities in Gaza, with 43 taken to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, 60 to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, 4 to Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat, 16 to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, and 32 to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.
Hospital sources also confirmed 20 new fatalities on Friday, including 16 members of the Ghabboun family killed in a pre-dawn airstrike in southern Gaza City, one civilian in the Radwan area, and two in Khan Younis.
However, it remains unclear whether these latest attacks constitute a breach of the ceasefire, which officially began Friday afternoon.
Hamas is expected to return 20 living hostages and the remains of others within the next 72 hours.
