Red alert issued over heavy rain fears in Makkah

Saudi Arabia’s National Meteorological Centre has issued the highest level “red alert” in various places of Makkah province over the possibility of heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Saudi Civil Defence published the alert and warned the public about the possible weather situation in the region, reports Anadolu Agency.

Civil Defence has called for taking caution during rainfall and following the safety instructions issued by the concerned authorities. Advice has also been given to stay away from waterlogged areas, valleys and dams in the interest of safety.

Red alert is the highest warning of the country’s National Meteorological Centre, which is issued in the presence of weather conditions requiring extreme caution.

Unstable weather and rainfall of various degrees have been observed in Makkah province in recent days. The weather office had issued a heavy rain alert in Al-Ardiyat and Al-Qunfudhah provinces on August 21.

The alert message also mentioned the risk of strong winds, hailstorm, thunderstorm and sudden floods along with the rain.
