Renowned folk singer Swagata Dey passes away

Swagata Dey, a popular artist of Bengali folk music, has passed away. He breathed his last on Thursday (August 6) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. News of his death has cast a shadow of grief over the world of Bengali folk music.

Family members said that he suddenly suffered a cerebral stroke last Monday (August 3). He was immediately admitted to hospital, but passed away after several days of treatment.

Swagata Dey had won a place in the hearts of countless listeners through his melodious voice and his dedicated devotion to folk music. His songs "Moyna Cholat Cholat" and "Sona Bondhu Re" were especially popular. Through these songs, he introduced Bengali folk music to a new generation as well.

Following the spread of the news of his death, fellow artists, actors, and fans expressed deep grief on social media.
