Renowned singer Zeenat Rehana passes away

Zeenat Rehana, the celebrated singer known for the timeless song “Shagorer Teer Theke”, has passed away. She died on Wednesday morning of July 2 at around 8:30 AM while receiving treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

Family sources confirmed her death to the media and announced that her first funeral prayer (Janaza) will be held after the Zuhr prayer at Gulshan Azad Mosque. A second Janaza will take place at 3 PM at the Channel i premises, followed by her burial at the Banani cemetery.

Zeenat Rehana had been battling illness for an extended period and was undergoing treatment. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in Bangladeshi music. Her husband, the late television personality Mostafa Kamal Syed, passed away some time ago.

Zeenat Rehana began her career in 1964 as a registered artist at Bangladesh Betar (Radio). Her 1968 hit, “Shagorer Teer Theke”, remains etched in the hearts of music lovers, earning her widespread acclaim.

She started performing on television in 1965, though her extended tenure at international organizations limited her public musical appearances. Nonetheless, her songs remain popular to this day. She made significant contributions across modern, spiritual, and children’s music genres.

Among her most notable songs are: “Ekti Phool Ar Ekti Pakhi Boloto Ki Name Tomay Daki,” “Ami Kakon Diye Dekhechhilam Mukhe Lojja Chhilo Bole,” “Kopale To Tikli Porbo Na,” “Ami Jar Kotha Bhavchi Mone Anmone,” “Amay Jodi Dako Kache,” “Konthobeena,” and “Mone Rekho, Smriti Theke.”

Her music continues to inspire generations and preserve her memory in Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
