Robber accidentally shot dead by accomplice during mugging attempt

A robber was killed by a stray bullet fired by an accomplice during a mugging attempt in Dighlia upazila, Khulna. The incident occurred around 3:00 am on Friday in the Steamerghat area of the upazila.

Dighlia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shah Alam confirmed the information.

Police said mobile banking agent Touhidul Islam was returning home after closing his shop in the Deara Ghat area. When he reached Steamerghat, three robbers surrounded him. A scuffle broke out between Touhidul and the robbers. During the struggle, a bullet fired by one of the robbers struck another member, killing him on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Sagar, a resident of Deara village in Dighlia upazila. Touhidul was also injured in the scuffle. Locals rescued him and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

OC Shah Alam said, "The body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. The other two robbers fled the scene after the incident."

He added that no case has been filed yet, but police are working to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
