Root surpasses Sachin, sets more records

Joe Root has set the record for most catches in a Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, surpassing Steve Smith. In the same match, he set another record with a half-century. The England batter now holds the record for the most fifties in Test cricket.

On Saturday, on the day England won the third and final Test by eight wickets, Root surpassed Indian legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar. He remained unbeaten on 62 off 39 balls, hitting nine fours. This unbeaten fifty was his 69th. Sachin, who scored 68 half-centuries, fell behind him. Shivnarine Chanderpaul is third with 66 fifties, followed by Allan Border and Rahul Dravid with 63 and 62 fifties respectively.

Additionally, Root has entered the club of 1,000 runs at Edgbaston as the first batter. After Lord's, Manchester and The Oval, he has scored more than a thousand Test runs at a fourth venue. He has 2,203 runs at Lord's, 1,128 in Manchester and 1,050 at The Oval.

Root has become the third batter, after South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis and Australian great Ricky Ponting, to score more than a thousand Test runs at four different venues.

Riding on Root's innings, England whitewashed Pakistan in a Test series on home soil for the first time. Jordan Cox remained unbeaten on 59 alongside him.
