Corporate personality and women’s sports organiser Rubaba Dowla has been appointed as a new director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

On Monday, November 3, the National Sports Council (NSC) officially informed the BCB of her nomination as one of its councillors.

With Rubaba’s inclusion, the BCB board of 25 directors is now complete. She is set to take part in today’s BCB board meeting.

Earlier, Ishfaq Ahmed had been nominated by the NSC as a BCB director. However, his nomination was withdrawn later after controversy arose due to his active involvement in the Awami League’s political activities. Rubaba Dowla has now been appointed in his place.

Rubaba previously served as the President of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015. She is also a well-known corporate leader, having served Grameenphone for 11 consecutive years as Chief Communications Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. Under her leadership, Grameenphone became the official sponsor of the Bangladesh national cricket team.

In her personal life, Rubaba is the niece of artist Kamalul Hasan and renowned Nazrul singer Feroza Begum. She completed her BBA and MBA from the University of Dhaka, and later earned higher degrees from the Stockholm School of Economics and the London Business School.

In recognition of her contribution to women’s leadership and the corporate sector in Bangladesh, she received the Anannya Top Ten Award in 2006.
