Runa Laila, Bappa Mazumder team up for first-ever Bangla ghazal duet
Country's legendary playback singer Runa Laila and acclaimed musician Bappa Mazumder are set to surprise listeners with a new musical collaboration, marking their first-ever duet in a Bangla ghazal.
The announcement of the special track, titled “Anayase”, was made recently in a video message by Runa Laila, posted on her verified Facebook page late Thursday (April 24).
In the message, Runa Laila said the song was initially planned as a solo performance but was later turned into a duet after she was impressed by Bappa Mazumder’s composition.
Calling him a “highly talented composer, singer and music director,” she said the collaboration naturally evolved after hearing his musical arrangement.
Bappa Mazumder recorded the song about a year ago at his studio in the capital's Banani. Expressing his excitement, he said singing alongside Runa Laila was a “dream come true.”
According to the artists, the project marks a rare experiment in Bangla music, as it explores the ghazal genre in a new form through a cross-generational collaboration.
The song is scheduled for official release on May 16.
