Ruplal and Pradeep killling: Another suspect arrested in Rangpur

A team of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another suspect in the killing of Ruplal Das and Pradeep Lal, who were beaten to death on suspicion of stealing a van at Taraganj in Rangpur.

The arrested, Majedul Islam, 24, was taken into custody Thursday night (March 13) from his home in Fakirpara village of Taraganj, according to a statement issued Friday by RAB-13.

Majedul, son of Altaf Hossain of the same village, had been on the run since the August 9 incident. Based on intelligence, RAB-13 apprehended him and handed him over to Taraganj Police Station for further legal proceedings. He was later produced before a local court.

The victims, Ruplal, 40, hailed from Ghanirampur in Kursha Union, and Pradeep, 35, hailed from Baluabhatta in Mithapukur, were beaten by locals in Budirhat Botola over alleged van theft. Ruplal was declared dead at Taraganj Upazila Health Complex, while Pradeep died later at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Pradeep was married to Ruplal’s niece.

Following the incident, Ruplal’s wife, Malati Rani, filed a murder case at Taraganj Police Station naming 700 unknown individuals as suspects.
