Russia ready to keep Iran's uranium under its custody
Russia has expressed its readiness to keep Iran's enriched uranium under its custody as part of a potential peace agreement with the United States.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said President Vladimir Putin has already raised the proposal in discussions with the United States and regional countries. However, no effective steps have been taken yet to implement it.
Meanwhile, Russia has evacuated almost all staff from Iran's only nuclear power plant, Bushehr, due to security risks.
The head of the country's nuclear energy agency, Alexei Likhachev, said 108 workers have been evacuated from the plant, with only 20 top-level officials currently remaining there.
It has been reported that the step was taken due to the risk of possible airstrikes amid the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.
Moscow has warned that an attack near the Bushehr plant could cause radiation and a catastrophe worse than the Chernobyl disaster.
The nuclear facility in southern Iran is operated by a 1,000-megawatt reactor. Several attacks have already taken place near the plant during the ongoing conflict.
Iranian state media and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have reported that while a security guard was killed in a previous attack, no major damage was caused to the facility.
