Saint Lucia Kings clinch maiden CPL title
The Saint Lucia Kings clinched their first Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title by defeating the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 6 wickets in the final.
After winning the toss and choosing to chase, it initially seemed like the trophy was slipping away from Faf du Plessis’ team. The defending champions, the Warriors, set a target of 138 runs, finishing their innings at 138/8. The Kings found themselves struggling at 67/4 by the end of the 14th over, still needing 72 runs from 36 balls, with the pressure mounting.
Aaron Jones then turned the match around spectacularly, hitting Moeen Ali for 27 runs in the 16th over with a series of boundary-clearing strokes. He continued to dominate, smashing Dwayne Pretorious for 20 runs in the 17th over and Romario Shepherd for 18 in the 18th, bringing the Kings to just one run needed off 12 balls. The once-boisterous home crowd in Providence was left stunned by Jones’ aggressive performance.
Warriors captain Imran Tahir delivered a leg-side wide, sealing the victory for the Kings. Jones finished unbeaten on 48 runs from 31 balls, while Roston Chase contributed 39 runs off 22 balls, helping Saint Lucia Kings secure their inaugural CPL title in a thrilling finale.
