Salah faces legal trouble in Egypt just after joining new club in Turkey

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has run into legal trouble just before starting a new chapter with Turkish club Trabzonspor, after bidding farewell to English football. A court in Egypt has ordered him to appear in person to take an oath in a case related to outstanding fees owed to a former lawyer.

The Civil Chamber of the New Cairo First Instance Court issued the order following a hearing in the case, requiring Salah to appear in court on September 6 .

The case against Salah was filed in September 2025 by his former lawyer, Amr Farag Allah Morsi Abdel Tawab. The lawyer claims he performed various legal, administrative and advisory services for Salah over a long period, and that a significant amount of professional fees and other expenses remain unpaid.

According to court documents, Salah had granted the lawyer a power of attorney in 2012. After nearly 13 years of service, Salah relieved him of his duties in August 2025. The lawyer then filed the case seeking compensation, claiming financial and mental distress due to the non-payment of outstanding dues.

However, Salah has completely denied the allegations and the claim for fees. This has led the court to order him to take a "decisive oath," a legal process requiring the individual to appear in court and affirm the truth of their statement under oath.

Salah must appear in court and swear that he does not owe any outstanding fees to the lawyer.

However, failing to appear on the scheduled date or refusing to take the oath without a valid legal reason would count against him. In that case, he could be considered to have refused the oath, potentially leading to a ruling in favour of the lawyer .

The court order comes just as Salah is preparing for the new season with his new club. His debut for Trabzonspor is expected on August 15 against Kasimpasa .

Interestingly, September 6 is the same day Trabzonspor have a match against Gençlerbirliği. It remains uncertain whether Salah will have to appear in court in Egypt on the day of this important match for his new club .
